The United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) has awarded Pakistan the title of ‘Master of Forests’ in the Asia-Pacific region.

In an official statement, UNEP said Prime Minister Imran Khan’s Ten Billion Trees Tsunami Project (TBTP) has pushed the country forward in deforestation.

Only three countries have been selected as forest champions in recognition of their efforts to increase forest cover to mitigate the effects of climate change. Apart from Pakistan, Congo from the African region and Costa Rica from the United States also received the prestigious title.

Malik Amin Aslam, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Climate Change, said the selection of Pakistan as a wild champion in the Asia-Pacific region is a testament to the Prime Minister’s vision. He also said UNEP Executive Director Inger Anderson spoke to him on the phone and appreciated Pakistan’s efforts to restore lost forest. protecting existing forest and creating new ones.
