100 Million Trees will be Planted Under the Green Pakistan Program.

The government’s efforts to improve forestry in Pakistan through the Green Pakistan (100 Million Trees) Program (GPP) were officially launched on 9 February 2017.

The Punjab Forest Department launched the project by planting 100,000 saplings on 138 plots in 19 locations across the province.

100 Million Trees Project

Seeds have been sown in 100 Million Trees in Sindh since Thursday as part of the Green Pakistan program. Nearly 50,000 seeds were planted in rural areas of Sukkur and Khairpur under the project.

District Chairman Local Government and Local Support Organizations Village organizations, students, and the general community participated in the tree planting campaign in the spring of 2017 in collaboration with Sindh Rural Support Organization (SRSO).

For the Green Pakistan project, 50% of the project cost government grants. Each province contributes 50% of every rupee spent.

The project will plant 100 million trees across the country. The aim of the project (100 Million Trees) is to plant native trees to monitor and enhance the native flora of Punjab.

Forest, Wildlife, and Fisheries Minister Mian Yawar Zaman has announced Rs 1,285 crore for the Green Pakistan project in Punjab, about 5.5 million trees will be planted in 10,000 plots and forest areas. which will be established in 13 districts in 5 years

In addition, the department will provide 22.15 million trees to the general public at affordable prices. They are available through 244 pre-designated and established stores in the province.

Punjab chief minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif launched the Kisan package to encourage farmers to plant trees. 70% of the costs are borne by the government and the remaining 30% by the farmers.
